Hello all,
This is my first blog and i am using it to spread the word about the up and coming expedition to Borneo i am on from July 2010 to Oct 2010.
I am curantly a 3rd year on a Marine + Natural History Film + Photography course.I am going on the expedition as the photographer. This is a graet oppertunity for me and will hopefully get some of my work out there.
About the trip:
* We aim to establish a long term partnership between UK and Bornean universities and Project Barito Ulu (a reserch centre in the geographical heart of Borneo), so that students from these institutions can play an important part in the conservation of this vital ecosystem, as well as gaining fantatsic work experience.
* The 2010 fxpedition team will attempt to be the first scientists and camera crew to document what, or who, is living in mountains that mark the Julai/Kapuas watershed. We will also try to discover the boundary between two hybridising species of gibbon.
* All the time we will be producing multimedia that will be uploaded from the jungle onto our website, where we hope to link children, students, and politicians from around the world into an interactive, virtual learning environment, where anyone can take part in our expedition. Through this we hope to educate and inspire current policy makers and the next generation to protect the rainforests into the future.
* We will also have a team working on a community project at a village called Muarajuloi. We have been asked to provide a renewable energy source for a local village, as well as mapping the territorial boundaries of the three communities that libe here. We will also train some local university students in the production and online distribution of multimedia, so that the people who live in and depend on the forest for their survival can have a modern voice in the modern world.
